Project description:

At present, the bell tower has massive fissures on its brick masonry walls. The conservation project aims to structurally repair the walls of the tower. Included in the restoration work is the strengthening of the existing concrete columns added inside the tower and the construction of new stairs as access to the proposed viewing deck at the apex.

Scope of the project:

1.          Mobilization and site preparation
   
1.1.       Temporary facilities/ utilities
1.2.       Provision of steel scaffoldings, bracings and supports
1.3.       Construction safety and health requirements
1.3.1.    Installation of drop nets
1.3.2.    Provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
1.3.3.    Cordoning and fencing works
1.3.4.    Construction signage
1.4.       Photo documentation and submission of as-built plans
1.5.       Submission of Detailed Engineering Studies (DES)

2.          Restoration of the bell tower

2.1.       Removal and clearing of debris
2.1.1.    Lifting and removal of collapsed masonry part of dome and debris
2.1.2.    Operation, clearing and hauling of loose masonry unit and debris in all levels

2.2.       Surface preparation
2.2.1.    Mechanical cleaning
2.2.2.    Chemical cleaning
2.2.3.    Systematic dismantling and code marking of loose masonry units for re-installation

2.3.       Masonry consolidation and stabilization of rubble core          
2.3.1.    Injection of lime water
2.3.2.    Re-installation and replacement of missing bricks
2.3.3.    Repointing, replastering and lime washing

3.          Provision of viewing deck

3.1.       Construction of parapet and concrete platform
3.2.       Installation and provision of grilles, doors, windows and handrails
3.3.       Provision of flooring and trench drain at ground level

4.          Electrical works

4.1.       General electrical wiring
