Restoration of Bacon Church Bell Tower

Project: Restoration of Bacon Church Bell Tower, Bacon Sorsogon
Location: Bacon, Sorsogon
Cultural property owner: Diocese of Sorsogon
GAA Budget: P8,000,000.00
Fiscal year: 2021
Date started: 2021
Date completed: 2021
Implementing agency: National Historical Commission of the Philippines
Contractor: 401 Development Corp.
Project description:

The Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish church’s' original remaining component is the ruins of the belfry at its leftmost side, and the neo classical facade. Throughout the years, the church has been damaged by different typhoons, which only retained the said original components. The belfry was modified in the late 1970s to 1980 and was constructed with art deco style tower component.

In 2018, the parish initiated a full interior renovation of the structure including the rehabilitation of the roof. Due to the limited sources and lack of references that does not merit its full restoration, the HPD recommends the minimal intervention work to preserve the remaining original components. The intervention work shall be the limited cleaning and stabilization of the belfry and the original facade. Bells will also be restored to keep the structure in its functional state.
